As classrooms continue to become increasingly diverse, the role of the classroom teacher becomes increasingly complex. Trying to meet the needs of all learners, including those with learning disabilities, often leaves teachers feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. A balanced literacy block can be created to include the principals of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Differentiated Instruction (DI). This literacy block, which scaffolds instruction, provides students with an ability to learn within the whole class, individually, and within small groups, thus fostering independence while building critical literacy skills. In this webinar, participants learned how to leverage aspects of a readers’ workshop to embed the principles of UDL and DI into their balanced literacy program.
About the speaker:
With over a decade of experience in programming for students with special needs as a Special Education Resource Teacher, Special Education Consultant, Special Education Teacher, and mainstream classroom teacher, Terri has extensive experience in differentiated instruction. Assistive Technology has been an area of extensive study, with a focus on embedding it into the differentiated classroom to support learning for all.
