About the Webinar
This practical webinar will introduce participants to apprenticeships and the skilled trades pathway, with a focus on supporting learners with disabilities as they prepare for this transition.
Alison Parker will explore the rights and responsibilities of people with disabilities, strategies for accessing accommodations on the job, during in-class training, and for certification exams, as well as the key skills learners need for success in the skilled trades. Participants will also consider practical ways to build these skills and develop a transition plan for entering an apprenticeship and skilled trades pathway.
Participants will learn to:
- identify common apprenticeship and skilled trades entry pathways
- outline the steps to request accommodations on the job site, during in-class training, and during certification exams
- describe common types of accommodations available during apprenticeship and in the skilled trades
- identify key skills for success in the skilled trades and practical strategies or programs to build those skills
- create a transition plan outlining next steps for preparing for apprenticeship and a career in the skilled trades
Participants will leave with practical information and tools to help learners prepare for the transition from the classroom to apprenticeship and the skilled trades.
