About the Webinar
Supporting students with learning disabilities in Grades 7 and 8 requires targeted, evidence-based literacy instruction that addresses persistent gaps while respecting the age and dignity of intermediate learners.
In Part 1 of this two-part webinar series, Nicole (Nikki) Town will explore practical, age-appropriate Structured Literacy instruction in decoding, encoding, and morphological awareness. Educators will learn how to systematically break down multisyllabic words and use root words, prefixes, and suffixes to strengthen reading accuracy, spelling, and vocabulary across subject areas.
Participants will learn to:
- understand the core components of Structured Literacy tailored for older learners
- explore practical routines for explicit decoding and encoding instruction in Grades 7 and 8, with a focus on Tier 2 supports
- apply morphological analysis to strengthen word reading, spelling, and content-area vocabulary
Participants will leave with practical, age-appropriate strategies they can use to strengthen literacy instruction and support intermediate students with learning disabilities.
This webinar is Part 1 of a two-part series. Part 2, Knowing It’s Working: Assessment, Progress Monitoring, and Pivoting, is planned for January and will build on this session by looking at how educators can monitor progress and respond when learning stalls.
